History
The site of the terrible Battle of Franklin during the Civil War, this quiet little city still bears the marks of this tragedy long past. Visit the Carter House which memorializes the battle and features items from the fight. The Carnton Plantation which served as a field hospital and even now has a cemetery containing many of the dead. This is only the sadder side of 19th century history: Franklin also has many beautiful homes and sites that were created in the decades around the Civil War.
